How these are built

Each index tracks the weekly median price of its constituent references across every dealer quoting them. Median rather than average, because one mistyped price should not move a benchmark.

Constituents are chosen by liquidity: a reference must be quoted by at least five dealers to enter. An index containing something nobody trades is an index nobody can use.

Each index is equal weighted and rebased to 1,000, so a single expensive reference cannot dominate and two indices can be read on one chart.

Where we have recorded transactions, those are used in preference to offers. An index built on asking prices is a survey; one built on what cleared is a benchmark.
